How to get there - From Lymington take the road past the ferry terminal. Continue through South Baddesley towards East End. At the triangular "T" junction turn right and at the next junction keep right down Tanner's Lane. Park at the top of the beach if there is room above the high tide mark, alternatively park on the grass verge on the left of the lane. (map)
Suggested Launch Site - At the end of the lane is a natural "hard" between reed beds. The hard is usable at most states of the tide, but there is a little mud at low water.
General
Description - Head out between the reed beds.
At high water one can find ways through the reeds to Lymington and explore that yachting centre. If so keep well clear of the ferries.
When/if the tide starts falling go out to the outer edge of the reeds to avoid being stranded and return along the edge.
Alternatively go out to the edge of the reeds and turn east, following the coast past Sowley Pond (once an industrial site!) outfall and on towards the Need's Oar bird sanctuary.
The journey to the end of Need's Oar and back is 4 miles each way. Tidal currents are low near the shore here. Check the weather forecast before you start.
