This page was submitted by David Dooley (E-mail this submitter)
How to get there - From Uxbridge take the A 408 south to Cowley and thence Cowley Peachy. Look for the Packet Boat public house on the west side of the road. From High St./High Rd. turn right into Packet Boat Lane. Go over the bridge to the second boatyard/marina. Park in the marina car park. (map)

Suggested Launch Site - Check the daily closing time for the car park.

There is a cafe with toilets inside facing the moored narrow boats.

Launch near the front of the cafe.

General Description - Paddle south through the marina to the Slough Branch of the Grand Union Canal. Turn west.

The canal goes in a very gentle curve to the outskirts of Slough. There are no locks. The length of the Slough Arm is about 5 miles. (route)

Comments:

25 May 2007 Dan da dan dan I do this route regularly but in reverse (Slough to Packet Boat Inn and back) - very under rated canal - great industrial rural mix and the wildlife is great - sightings of kingfisgers garanteed, herons, sparrow hawks and I've even seen a large turtle basking happily on a log that someone has obviously released when it grew too big. The word Slough doesn't seem that inspiring but don`t let that put you off. This is a great paddle.
