This page was submitted by Alan Brannon (E-mail this submitter)
How to get there - Boroughbridge is Adjacent to A1 (map)

Suggested Launch Site - Park at picnic site next to Boroughbridge Weir accessed directly from south side of main roundabout. Launch onto short canal section that bypasses the weir alongside bridge abutment.

General Description - The Ure navigation is a scenic river in the Vale of York. Starting at Boroughbridge you paddle up river towards Ripon. Unless the flow of the river is high you will be able to reach the beginning of the Ripon Canal at Oxclose Lock aprox. 5 miles away. (route)

No necessity to do the whole trip . Take your time and enjoy the scenery. You can visit Newby Hall on the north bank which has direct river access.

One lock en route, Westwick Lock.

The route can be extended to include the Ripon canal or can be done one way starting in Ripon and ending at Boroughbridge.

Comments:

01 Dec 2007 Rob A friend and I did this trip last weekend. We put in at the river bridge by Ripon racecourse, so avoiding the locks. This bit of river can be shallow but we put in after a weeks rain. First couple of hundred yards were grade 2 thereafter flat calm after that all the way to Bouroghbridge. A nice scenic route took us four hours steady paddling.
