How to get there - Bablock Hythe is about 10 miles west of Oxford. From the A34 (western by-pass) take the A420 westbound at Botley. At Cumnor take the B4017 northwest through the village then turn left into Appleton Road. After about a mile turn right , through Eaton, and follw this road/lane until the end.The launch site is on the east bank of the river opposite the Ferryman Inn (map)

Suggested Launch Site - The Launch site is on the east bank of the river opposite the Ferryman Inn. There is limited parking.

General Description - Set of southwest. Northmore lock is in about a mile and a half. All Thames locks are manned. The lock keepers are generally happy to allow canoes to use the lock, avoiding the need for portaging. Newbridge is a further two miles where you will find the Maybush Inn on one side and the Rose Revived on the other.

A further two miles will take you to Shifford Lock where we turned round to return to the start.

the trip is 12 miles with two locks (but no portaging!) (route)
