How to get there - From the A3 through Guildford take the A320 north. You will cross the river and immediately come to a roundabout at which you turn left into Stoughton Road. Turn first left into Maple Grove and continue to the end where you turn left into Riverside. Find suitable street parking. (map)
Suggested Launch Site - There is and easy launch from the grass area next to the Rowbarge pub.
General
Description - This is a trip of about seven miles with 4 portages around the two locks en route.
Set off to the left into the navigation cut. After the first half mile (which borders a small industrial estate on one side) the trip is through generally open countryside with frequent wooded banks. About half the trip is on the river and half in the canalised sections of the Wey navigation. There are no pubs apart from the one at the start but the trip can be easily extended by a further two miles (including the return) to the New Inn at Cartbridge. (route)
The best portage at Stoke Lock is over the bank to the right of the lock and into the weir stream (see photos).
This river and the Navigations is owned by the National Trust, the guardian of so many of our rural treasures. The standard BCU licence covers paddlers on this trip.
