General
Description - About eight miles of easy paddling with no obstacles downriver to Ecclestone Ferry where you can leave a car. Normally there is a helpful flow. Spring tides reach over Chester weir and up to Farndon so cautious canoeists might want to check the tide tables.
To my mind, the scenery on the first half of the trip is enlivened by the many holiday chalets along the bank. In the second half Eaton Hall, the home of the Duke of Westminster, is almost completely invisible from the river. Perhaps that also is a good thing - it has been called "the largest petrol station in Cheshire". Paddlers only see the lovely Eaton Hall iron bridge built by Thomas Telford.
Ecclestone ferry is no longer functioning but landing on the left bank there is easy, with plenty of roadside parking. (route)
