Canoe Days Out

Aberdeenshire - River Don - Alford to Monymusk

This page was submitted by Jim Thornton (E-mail this submitter)
How to get there - Haughton Caravan Park, Montgarrie Road in Alford. AB33 8NA (map)

Suggested Launch Site - Launch from the river bank in the caravan park. The bank is a bit steep and one of our party got carried straight under a low overhanging tree and fell it. But it's an OK launch site.

General Description - 10 miles of excellent grade 2 canoeing to Monymusk. The weir near Castle Forbes is usually shootable, but inspect left.

I think the weir about half a mile above the finish on left after Monymusk bridge) is also shootable but I've not done it. We got out at some flat rocks on the left bank where the road runs alongside the river in Lords Throat (Grid Reference NJ680183 - see map). (route)
